Lewy Body Dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

Over the years there has been a great deal of discussion, about where Lewy Body Dementia sits, yet now we see if on the" Parkinson's UK" web site, noted as a type of Parkinson's.

Many doctors dispute this, or have done over the years, yet there are many symptoms which are shared by both, and some of these, I have had problems with over the years, but never picked up the link to Parkinson's.

Like many other people I have had problems with certain symptoms over the last few years, but never seemed to get to the bottom of it, and I suppose that never recognised the links with Parkinson's, until the last few months.

But this is partly due to the fact that I am seeing a Parkinson's consultant about my balance problems and a tremor in one arm and hand

So I am now looking forward to seeing the Parkinson's consultant again on Friday, so I can understand more about this as its all so very confusing for me, let alone my wife

Dementia with Lewy bodies

Dementia with Lewy bodies is similar, in some ways, to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

Symptoms differ slightly from Parkinson's and include problems with memory and concentration, attention, language and the ability to carry out simple actions.

People who have dementia with Lewy bodies commonly experience visual hallucinations and some Parkinson's-type symptoms, such as slowness of movement, stiffness and tremor.

Dementia with Lewy bodies is also a progressive condition, which means that the symptoms can become worse over time. Currently, there is no cure or treatment for the condition.
